ROM: Parma were knocked out of Serie A after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Torino which ensured they were relegated to division two, three years after making a comeback.

Mergim Vojvoda scored the winning goal midway through the second half leaving Parma 12 points behind 17th-placed Cagliari with four games remaining but the meeting record was not in their favor making it impossible for the club to survive relegation.

For the hosts, Torino it was three valuable points in their bid to avoid relegation and take them to 15th place, three points above Benevento who occupy the last place of relegation.

In the 1990s, Parma was among the top teams in Italy and a major power in Europe, winning the European Cup in 1995 and 1999 as well as the Champions Cup in 1993.

Financial problems led to their elimination from Serie A in 2015 and their return to the semi -professional division, Serie D which is also the fourth division of Italian football.

Three promotions brought them back to the major leagues but failed to make an impact as a major power and returned to Serie B.
