Aubameyang’s Own Goal Added To Arsenal Loss

LONDON: Arsenal suffered their fourth straight defeat at home for the first time since 1959 when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s own goal gave 1-0 victory to Burnley early this morning.

The Gunners were once again frustrated by the lack of discipline when Granit Xhaka was sent off just before the game, which gave Burnley an advantage.

Aubameyang, who has been waiting for the league’s first goal in the open game since signing a three-year luxury deal in September, scored the wrong goal while trying to remove Ashley Westwood’s corner kick 17 minutes before the end.

The win allowed Burnley out of the relegation zone while Arsenal were in 15th place, just five points above the bottom three.

“We have to score, that’s what we lost. What we did and what Burnley did, is incomparable,” said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard has previously been praised for making an immediate impact by bringing Arsenal to win the FA Cup last season, only eight months in office for the first time.

However, Arteta is currently facing a lot of pressure as there is no sign he can change the situation to face Southampton, Everton, Manchester City in the League Cup and Chelsea in the next four games.
