Grealish Style Of Play Like Gascoigne, McLaren Said

Jack Grealish has a style of play like Paul Gascoigne but will struggle to grab Raheem Sterling’s position in England’s starting line-up, said former The Three Lions manager Steve McClaren.

The Aston Villa midfielder made his first appearance for England when he tested Wales yesterday by showing his best performance in a 3-0 win at Wembley.

One of the highlights of his action was a pass to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s first goal to open the scoring in the 26th minute while his style of play became a real asset for England.

Grealish has also played a major role for Villa in all three league games this season, including scoring three goals in three straight attempts, and even became the first player to record five Premier League (EPL) goals as his side thrashed defending champions Liverpool 7-2.

However, he is still struggling to make a name for himself on the international stage under Gareth Southgate, so McClaren said the 25-year-old should continue to gain the manager’s trust as he can inject something different in the team.

“His performance is really mature. He is the focal point for the Aston Villa team, he needs a good player around him and what Aston Villa bought this season is a good player,” McClaren told Stats Perform News.

“You see the ability of the pair he formed alongside Ross Barkley against Liverpool last weekend and highlighting two interesting passes that could not have been created and inspired by anyone else and England do not have such midfielders, strikers, creative players.

“We have not had a player who has a touch like Gazza for a long time, he belongs to that type of player.

“Yes, he can be frustrating sometimes but he has proven it now. He has the final product, he is capable of finishing, he is able to create goal moves and it is proven through Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal.

“So, I think he is the main advantage of the team. He has to gain the trust of the manager and that is the most important thing. If he can achieve that then he needs to be in the England team because with good players around him, he can be a better player. again. ”

However, McClaren feels Grealish will face a challenge to get the lead, especially as Manchester City striker Sterling returns to fitness as he is Southgate’s choice of attacking position.

“Unfortunately, no (I think he is not in the team’s main planning),” he added.

“This is because the 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 formation that Gareth applied requires the game to be expanded.

“He tends to Jadon Sancho, Sterling, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood – he demands a fast run.

“Jack, on the other hand, does not have the speed, he has the ability to control the ball, overcome the opposing players, have a passing vision, do not lose the ball so he is a different player.

“Jack will be useful if he is on the bench and when you are 0-1 behind us or we need to win the game, put him in because he can break the defense in any position.

“He will cause problems, so he is an incredible asset to own on the bench or in the main squad. But his journey is still a long way for Jack Grealish to become a permanent England player, there is still a lot of work to be done.”
