MILAN: Kylian Mbappe brought glory to France in the UEFA Nations League when he blasted home a winning goal that completed a resurgence after trailing by one goal to beat Spain 2-1 here.

Mbappe blasted home 10 minutes left to win the title for the world champions after Karim Benzema equalized just two minutes after Mikel Oyarzabal put Spain ahead in the 64th minute.

The win eased a bit of frustration when it was eliminated early from Euro 2020 at the hands of Switzerland and showed how strong France is on the offensive side.

“I really wanted the trophy with France and now it has been achieved,” said Benzema, who returned to the French squad at the last Euros.

“We showed a strong character, because this team is very strong, never gives up and it is proven today. It is a sign of a great team when not panicking, being patient and waiting for the best opportunity.”

Les Bleus won the match at the San Siro after Oyarzabal blasted home the opening goal.

Apart from two goals from the star striker, France also had a chance through Mbappe before the chaotic finish when Spain launched an attack on the French goal.

Didier Deschamps had to thank Hugo Lloris for the match not continuing into extra time when the French captain saved a try at the end of the match by Yeremi Pino.
