Toni Kroos Made 100th International Appearance With Germany

Toni Kroos made his 100th international appearance against Germany in a 3-3 draw with Switzerland earlier this morning, but the midfielder insisted he was more concerned with the outcome of the match than the number of matches.

Clinical finisher Serge Gnabry after an hour of play ensured Germany occupied the top of Group A4, the League of Nations (UNL) after being forced to bounce back in Cologne.

Switzerland led 2-0 through Mario Gavranovic and Remo Freuler, then Timo Werner immediately reduced the goal deficit before Kai Havertz equalized.

Gavranovic put Switzerland ahead with his second personal goal, but Gnabry has once again balanced his position with his 14th personal goal internationally since November 2016.

Although the Real Madrid striker came up with a meaningful contribution, his mistake gave Switzerland a second goal and despite being satisfied with the achievement of the 100th appearance, the 30-year-old believes the success of the title is more meaningful than personal appreciation.

“Of course this is a special match for me. To make a 100th appearance is a good sign. But anyone who knows me knows that I care more about results than appearances,” Kroos said.

“But of course, 100 matches is an interesting thing. I have played alongside good players. I hope we can build this success with the current team.

“The problem we had was the first 10 or 15 minutes. After that we put on a good game and improved our touch skills at the end of the last match. We are still not satisfied because our goal is to win this match.”

Kroos was one of the old faces in the German squad that saw Joachim Low stand firm with his decision not to list Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller who were in sensational performance at Bayern Munich.

“We got up after being left behind, we showed our desire,” Havertz said.

“We are still in the process of building a team, we are a young team. We will not change our course and will continue to strive. We need to be smarter in our defense as we start the match well today.”
